Marty Walsh Blog 2026 Episode 1

Hi blog subscribers and newbies! It’s been 10 years since I posted the last blog episode of “The Life and Times of a Second Call Studio Musician”.

2026 has been a pivotal year, retiring from Berklee, and beginning new projects. Two projects from the 80’s have resurfaced if you can believe that!

First up, The Western Front. This is a project I started in 1983 and finished in 1984, with guitarist Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy fame. Over a two-year time span, while working on our other careers, we were able to put together an album’s worth of material. There was a deal in the works with Atlantic records back then but as is the music business, it fell through. 🙁 The members were myself, Scott, Derek Bergmann on keys, Moon Calhoun on vocals and Darrell Verdusco on drums. The songwriting team also included songwriter Dennis O’Donnell. 40 years later we were able to procure a deal with the Mascot Label Group and their subsidiary Music Theories Recordings.

The Western Front LP “Eureka” features 12 songs. It is dropping on July 10, 2026 and you can order The LP “pre-sale” here The Western Front LP

Here is the video of the first single “Set Me Free”. The song challenges the question of everyone being manipulated by their cell phones and social media accounts. Which is completely ironic because I’m using the net to broadcast my blog! (oh well)

Next week’s edition will be on the second Western Front single dropping on May 20th titled “Rain”

I want to welcome back my subscribers from 10 years ago! And if you would like to keep up with the goings on, hit that subscribe button as I will be posting a new episode every Friday. At least that’s the plan for now. 🙂
